    Kodiak 100 - Shelby Farrell

First UTMB race, ever! Excited to rip it up in Big Bear with this trusty kit.

Shelby Farrell's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Crest 6 by Tantrums — The first thing you notice when you pick up this vest is how insanely light it is. Second: super soft materials, with a special lil comfort collar. Then you load it up and discover it doesn’t bounce!! What more could you want in a running vest?
    • M1 by Mount to Coast — A mountain cruiser. My foot felt great from run one, and like other Mount to Coast shoes, the fit just works for me without trending unnecessarily long. The lugs hit a sweet spot too: enough for the mountains, but not so aggressive that road sections are annoying. More trail shoe than the gravel-friendly H1, and a really nice balance.
    • Women's Trail Crop by Dust — This crop just works. The cut is super flattering on me, the mesh looks cool as hell, and it has a surprising amount of storage built in. I’ll still be wearing a vest because, ya know, 100 miles requires a lot of stuff. But I’ll be stashing my amazonite in this crop for a little extra power boost. ✨ Very pumped to rock this one at Kodiak. Again... torn on what color because the Forest Black is really freakin' sick too.
    • TRAILCHASER by Bolle — The ventilated photochromic lenses are my favorite part of these glasses. Well, and the name... and the frame color. I probably wouldn’t choose the Fit-Tec temples again with long hair because things can get a little tangled when I put them on my head. But! The Fit-Tec is pretty nifty for its actual job: these glasses stay put.
    • Trail running socks - Trail Double by Sidas — Friction between the sock layers not your foot. These are a thicker sock but not smushy. They feel compressive, offering light support and protection to your ankles. The grip fibers in Sidas socks are genius.
    • Women's 2-in-1 Split Short by Dust — The best of both worlds: a lil compression hug underneath and flowy split shorts fluttering in the wind on top. Pockets for snacks, phone, and a dedicated trail trash collection. I’m torn on my favorite color combo for Kodiak, but the pop of orange on the Forest Black pair makes me feel fast, which obviously counts for something. It'll be a last minute decision!
    • Precision Fuel PF 300g Flow Gel by The Fooster — The goal is to spread this out over 6 hours (two separate flasks, one at a time), allowing me to add carbs without overloading my drink mix.
    • Precision Fuel - PF30g Chew Bar by The Fooster — I LOVE these. I do kind of struggle to chew and swallow them while racing a hundred, but I think they'll be a great snackie while climbing Sugarloaf.

  1. Super High-Carb Sport Drink Mix by Skratch Labs — I actually bought the individual packs to make it easier on my crew and so I can have backup in my vest. Ideally, every flask has 200 calories / 50g of carbs in it from Skratch.
