    Crevasse Rescue - Clara Maynard

My preferred crevasse rescue gear for oopsies on glaciers

Clara Maynard's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Nano Traxion by Petzl — Lightest progress capture pulley on the market. The progress capture can’t be locked out of the way, which I prefer, but you can’t use it as a regular pulley
    • Petzl Tibloc Rope Clamp / Grab by Petzl
    • ROLLCLIP Z by Petzl — While not necessary, can reduce your friction significantly and increase your hauling efficiency. Lighter than a separate locker and pulley.
    • HMPE Cord Sling 6mm by Edelrid — I use the 120cm as my rappel tether and anchor material and the 40cm as my prusik loop.
    • Mission Light Sling by Blue Ice — These slings are round shaped and easiest to untie
    • BLUE ICE Missions Light Sling by BLUE ICE
    • SMC Pro Picket by SMC — Carry 1-2 per person. Steel end cap prevents deformation and wired cable helpful for mid-clip vertical pickets.
    • Aero Lite by Blue Ice — I use a 19 or 22cm for glacier travel. Lightest screw per cm on the market.
    • Clepsydra L K10G by Grivel — Triple action locker for clipping into glacier rope
    • Sm'D Carabiner by Petzl — I like the red safety indicator and these tend to freeze up for me a lot less than other carabiners. Great for racking traxion & tibloc.
    • Plume HMS K3GH by Grivel — Lightest HMS/round stock locker out there. Reduces friction while hauling or belaying. The twin gate doesn’t rattle open and doesn’t freeze shut.
    • C.A.M.P. Nano 22 Wiregate Carabiner Purple by Camp — The lightest carabiners that I can actually operate with gloves on. I use these for racking to save some weight. They are small, but I feel like they are the least funky micro carabiners to clip.
    • Reverso Belay Device by Petzl — Still autoblocks with skinnier ropes
    • Mammut Alpine Core Protect Dry by Mammut — Good half rope for glacier travel. I like the cut resistant sheath to protect from crampons.
    • Sum'Tec Mountaineering Ice Axe by Petzl — Good technical axe with hammer for hammering pickets
    • PowerCord Cordelette - 5.9mm by Sterling
    • Auto Block Loop - 6mm by Sterling — Soft and supple pre-sewn prusik loop
