One of the most often questions I receive is “What do I need to get started?” This list, will give you a great starting point for getting out on the water on your own or not depending on rental gear if you’re utilizing a guide.

Echo Carbon XL Euro Nymph by Echo — This rod in a 10’ 4wt is a great rod for both contact and indicator nymphing- with the ability to throw dry flies when the hatch begins. 
Redington Original Fly Rod Kit by Redington — A solid-entry level rod and reel combo, the 5wt is a good choice for indicator nymphing, dry fly and light streamer fishing. Comes with backing, fly line and leader- so you just need to add some tippet and a fly and get on the water! 
Men's Freestone Stockingfoot Waders by Simms — Waders are a pretty large investment when starting in fly fishing. Depending on usage, they should last a few seasons and have the ability to be repaired once or twice. It’s also a product where you ‘get what you pay for’- most lower priced products will be leaking within a few trips- I’ve seen it countless times. Nothing wrecks your day more than being soaking wet and cold, so my advice is to look at mid range waders like these or better, whatever your budget will support. 
Simms Freestone Wading Boot by Simms — I’ve owned all of the boots manufactured by Simms- these are a solid choice that will last a few seasons and have great support and stability. Add some studs for extra grip while in the water…
Encounter Wading Boot by Orvis
Grey's Fin Fly Reel by Greys — A good reel with a solid frame that keeps the line from slipping under the spool. I currently use this as my dedicated stillwater reel for competitions.
