Vision Helmet by Black Diamond — This helmet strikes a great balance of light weight, comfort, style, and durability.
Men's Solution Guide Harness by Black Diamond — Great harness for all types of rock climbing; sport and trad, single and multi pitch. Lightweight but still very comfortable at hanging belays. Roomy gear loops to fit your entire rack.<div>Don't worry, you don't have to be a guide to buy one of these!</div>
Crag Dry Rope - 9.5mm by Mammut — Great cragging rope that strikes a balance between light weight and durability.
A 60 meter will work great for most single pitch routes in Washington. A 70 meter is best for some of the longer pitches at Index and for a lot of multipitch routes.
Crag Gloves by Black Diamond — Belay gloves with great grip and dexterity for handling ropes.
Camalot™ Z4 by Black Diamond — The narrow heads on these cams allow them to fit into tricky placements. They are flexible when you want them to be and rigid when you need them to stay in place.
TC Pro by La Sportiva — I've been wearing these shoes for over a decade and they are my go-to multi-pitch and crack climbing shoes for a reason. The flat sole allows for all-day comfort on long routes and the ankle protection is key for foot jamming on crack climbs.
C4 Camalot by Black Diamond — Tried and true cams. I prefer Z4s for the smaller sizes and have C4s from 1 through 6.
Crack Gloves by Black Diamond — Durable, high-performance gloves for crack climbing. Sticky material, thumb coverage is a nice perk, and the design is slim, just like an old school tape glove.
ATC-Guide Belay Device by Black Diamond — A must have for multi-pitch climbing! This device can do it all-lead belay, top belay, and rappel.
PearLock Screwgate Carabiner by Black Diamond — I love the round stock of this locking carabiner. It works great as a braking carabiner with a rappel device and for tying munter and clove hitches.<div><br></div><div>3 of these are needed in your glacier kit.</div>
C4 Extendable Sling Camalot by Black Diamond — New product this year! I've been using extendable slings on other cams for a couple years and found them super handy. Psyched to see Black Diamond start producing them!
10mm Dynex Runners by Black Diamond — One 120cm and one 180cm sling are needed in your glacier kit.
Miniwire Alpine Quickdraw 3 Pack by Black Diamond — Alpine draws are super important for minimizing rope drag on trad climbs and multi-pitch routes. I would recommend at least 6 (2 of these 3-packs).
Hotwire Quickpack 12 cm by Black Diamond — Super durable and user-friendly quickdraws for sport climbing. I like the thick dog bone which is easy to grab if you are worried about falling while trying to clip the rope.
Wiregate Nut Tool by Black Diamond — A must have for removing passive protection on trad climbs. I like the hooked nose on this one for reaching cams triggers that are a little too deep in the crack.
Stopper Set #4-13 by Black Diamond — This set includes a good range of stoppers for your trad rack.
Offset Stopper Set #7-11 by Black Diamond — These stoppers will fit in pin scars and flared cracks where traditional stoppers don't fit. A great supplement to your trad rack.
Camalot™ Z4 Offset by Black Diamond — I have a Z4 offset in each of the five sizes and I love these cams. I use them all the time at Index and they can make a sketchy placement absolutely bomber, especially when using them in pin scars.
Rock Blitz 15 Backpack by Black Diamond — This is an awesome pack for multi-pitch climbing. It fits everything I need to bring on route with me for a full day on a multi-pitch route and its slim design makes it really comfortable to climb with.
TX4 EVO by La Sportiva — All of the approach shoes in Sportiva's TX line are excellent. These TX4s are on the heavier side but are super durable and comfortable to hike in. The sticky rubber on these shoes is clutch for rocky approaches and descents.
Katana Lace by La Sportiva — Excellent shoe that can perform on steep sport routes and vertical cracks while still being quite comfortable.
Trango Beta Stick Evo Stick Clip Black by Trango — Great stick clip that comes in various lengths. Not a mandatory item but it sure is nice to have some insurance against decking at the start of a sport lead!
Creek 50 Backpack by Black Diamond — Excellent, durable pack with plenty of room for everything you need for a day at the crag
Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio by Rocky Talkie — Super valuable tool to improve communication on multi-pitch climbs. Very useful for areas with freeway noise, windy days in the mountains, and busy areas with lots of other climbers. Lightweight, incredible battery life, and securely attaches to your backpack or harness.
Miura VS by La Sportiva — An absolute edging machine for steep single pitch routes and boulders. Quite aggressive and not the most comfortable but nothing performs like the Miuras!
Force Hoody by Rab — Great sun hoody for sunny days at the crag
Grigri Belay Device by Petzl — In my opinion this is simply the best assisted braking device out there. Once you learn how to use it to lead belay it performs so well. And I love how little friction it has for top belaying when climbing multi-pitch in a group of two.
Spot 400-R Headlamp by Black Diamond — Great headlamp that is lightweight, plenty bright and easily rechargeable with a micro-USB. Important to bring to those evening sessions! And I always have it in my pack on a multi-pitch route just in case.
HydraPak Flux Water Bottle by HydraPak — Nice to have a collapsible water bottle for multi-pitch climbing. Once you drink all your water it packs down real small so you can fit more gear in your pack!
Ombraz Dolomite Armless Sunglasses by Ombraz — Best sunglasses for rock climbing. Armless design is comfortable to wear with a helmet and makes it easy to take them on and off without worrying about dropping them. Game changer.
Totem Cam by Totem Cams — These cams are simply amazing for fitting into tricky placements such as flared cracks and pin scars. Especially useful for aid climbing.
Edelrid Tommy Caldwell Multi-Colored Eco Dry Rope 9.3 mm X 60 M by Edelrid — With this bicolor rope you'll save time finding the middle of the rope while rappelling. This rope handles really well and 9.3mm is a sweet spot of light weight and durability for single and multi-pitch climbing.
LiteWire Carabiner by Black Diamond — 3 non-locking carabiners are needed in your glacier kit.
Stretch Zion Standard Pants - Men's by REI — These are my go-to climbing pants that I’ve worn for years. Comfortable, breathable, stretchy, and durable.
