Petzl GRIGRI Belay Device Gray by Petzl — The Grigri is my primary mechanical-assisted braking device. I love it for lead belaying, belaying a single rope in "guide mode," and rappelling a single strand.
Petzl NEOX Assisted Blocking Belay Device Black by Petzl — The Neox is the Grigri on steroids. You can use it for lead belaying, belaying a single rope in "guide mode," and rappelling a single strand.
Mammut Smart 2.0 Belay Device Orange by Mammut — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">The Mammut Smart 2.0 is my choice for a non-mechanical, assisted-braking belay device. It’s perfect for folks who like the feel of a traditional tube-style device (aka an ATC), but want the modern assisted-braking function for extra security
Black Diamond ATC Pilot Belay Device Black by Black Diamond — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">The Pilot is another great choice for a non-mechanical, assisted-braking belay device. It’s perfect for folks who like the feel of a traditional tube-style device (aka an ATC), but want the modern assisted-braking function for extra security.
Black Diamond ATC-Guide Belay Device Black by Black Diamond — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">The Black Diamond ATC is the mother of all tube-style devices. It can do it all– lead belay, belay in guide mode, and rappel. This is a critical tool to have on your harness.<div><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;"> </div>
Petzl Reverso Belay Device Gray by Petzl — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">The Reverso is my favorite tube-style device. What sets it apart from similar devices is that the “guide mode” eyelet is aligned with the two tubes. I prefer how this design positions the device when I am belaying in guide mode. The Reverso can do it all– lead belay, belay in guide mode, and rappel. This is a critical tool to have on your harness. <div><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;"> </div>
Black Diamond ATC-Alpine Guide Belay Device Green by Black Diamond — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">The ATC Alpine Guide is my choice for light and fast missions with skinny ropes. You can lead belay, belay in guide mode, and rappel. All in a smaller, more lightweight package. This is a critical tool to have on your harness for climbs deep in the backcountry.
Black Diamond Big Air XP Belay/Rappel Device Package Gray by Black Diamond — <span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Black Diamond knows you want convenience. If you want a quick and dirty belay/rappel package, go for the XP device with matching locking carabiner. You can lead belay and rappel but you cannot belay in guide mode.
