- Who it's for
- Runners who prefer a two-layer short system—liner under separate shorts—especially for long efforts like 100- or 200-milers where chafe prevention is critical. Also suits anyone who wants the flexibility to swap outer layers at aid stations without fully undressing.
- What people are saying
- Hosts consistently praise these for eliminating chafe across long and ultra distances, with multiple noting years of reliable use. Comfort, breathability, and a secure fit without excessive compression are the recurring themes; no notable criticism appears across the nine notes.
- Worth noting
- Made with Polartec fabric and stitchless seams; the wider waistband is flagged as keeping the liner from riding up. One host notes sizing runs true to size; an 8" inseam length is mentioned.
Nick Petterson's review
Path projects liners have been a staple for me for the past 5-6 yrs. Their shorts are great too, but the liners are soft, reliable, and allow me to wear any shorts over top without chafing.

Keeps the chafe to a minimum and still lets the bits breathe

Polartec fabric with stitchless seams. These have a wider waistband so the shorts stay in place and don't ride up. Zero chafing with this combo.

The Lynx PD liners are my go-to liners if I am wearing a two layer short system. They have just the right amount of compression to keep everything where it's supposed to be, without being uncomfortable. They are very comfortable and dry well too! I prefer a two layer short system for 100 milers, that way I can put shorts overtop of the liners, and when it gets cold I can easily change to some pants without having to get naked at an aid station

I used to suffer from bad chafe in races, especially in 200 milers. Since using Path Projects base liners, life has been a lot more enjoyable in my races. I love having a separate underwear underneath my shorts to prevent chafe and help insulate those "crown jewels"
Recommended in Ultra gear I Love, for some of the harshest ultra adventures around.
Great product for any runner. It helps prevent chaffing which really kills a run. Fits true to size.
