    Rock Climbing - Nicholas Metz

Nicholas Metz's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Camalot C4 Cams by TAZ — An excellent, durable cam.
    • Camalot Z4 Cams by TAZ — These are great cams that come in smaller sizes. I think they are among the best small cams out there. They do have one downside though - The trigger wires aren't particularly durable. The trigger wires on mine usually only last a year, although that's with heavy use. Luckily, the trigger wires are not a load bearing piece of the cam, so there are plenty of easy DIY ways to replace the trigger wires for pennies and about 10 minutes of your time. Alternatively, you can send them to Black Diamond to be repaired,
    • Totem Cams by TAZ — Totem cams are on the pricier side, but they are awesome. I almost always carry some on my rack. My most used sizes are black, blue, yellow, and purple. They mostly follow the classic color scheme of cam sizes, except for the yellow totem (.4) and the black totem (Between a .2 and .3).
    • Luna / Adjama by TAZ — This is a great all-round harness for rock climbing. It is comfortable, adjustable, and has plenty of room on the gear loops.
    • Sitta by TAZ — The Petzl Sitta is probably my favorite, and definitely my most worn harness. It is incredibly light and packable, yet it still manages to be quite comfortable. It also has gear spaces on the gear loops. I thought this was gimmiky at first, but I ended up finding them quite useful
    • Crag Dry Rope - 9.5mm by Mammut — This is my favorite all round climbing rope. It is the most durable rope I've ever used.
    • Helium 3.0 by TAZ — My favorite racking caribeaner
    • Spirit Express Quickdraw by TAZ — My favorite quickdraw for sport climbing.
    • Grigri by TAZ — My favorite cam-assisted belay device.
    • Reverso by TAZ — My favorite tube-style belay device. I really like that the plaquette loop is oriented horizontally on this device.
    • Attache Screw by TAZ — A great HMS locking caribeaner
    • Meteor Climbing Helmet by Petzl — A more durable, and more cost friendly option than the sirocco. This one is also quite comfy.
    • Mission Light Sling by TAZ — My absolute favorite slings. Made of tubular dyneema, they are much easier too untie knots in than traditional flat slings.
    • Sirocco by TAZ — Although pricey, this is my favorite climbing helmet. You don't even realize your wearing it!
