My Trail Running Essentials - Maxwell Denton

All the gear I regularly train / race with. Used in races from 13.1 miles - 100 miles.

Maxwell Denton's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Mount 2 Coast H1 by Mount to Coast — These just might be my favorite shoe of all time. I use them on road runs, trail runs and anything in between. I wore 1 pair of these shoes for a 100 mile trail race with 14,000+ ft of elevation gain and loss with no feet problems. I LOVE THIS SHOE
    • T1 by Mount to Coast — Great shoe for more technical trails. I ran a technical 54 mile trail ultra with 12,000 ft of elevation gain and loss in these. They held up amazingly and showed zero wear and tear afterwards
    • Ultra Run Mini-Crew by Injinji — They look weird, they feel weird (at first). These are the best running socks I have ever worn. No blisters, no hot spots, no rubbing. Used these in all of my ultramarathons in the past, and will use on all of my ultramarathons in the future
    • HYPERLYTE H1 by Hyperlyte — 1 serving has 1000mg of sodium and 100g of carbs. I usually use half a normal serving - so 500mg sodium and 50g of carbs. Mild sweet taste, no stomach distress and has kept me fueled up for all my races
    • All Products from Squirrel's Nut Butter! by Squirrels Nut Butter — Ever chafe while running? Make that a thing of the past with this running lube. One of my faves!
    • Cosmo 350R Headlamp by Black Diamond — Easily adjustable trap, multiple brightness levels, recharges quickly. Have used in many trail races and backyard ultras with zero issues
    • Valhalla Vest by Terignota — great beginner vest without breaking the bank! I personally would not use this vest for inanely long distances, but its great for shorter ultras or if you want to try out running with a vest without spending hundreds!
    • SpeedDraw Plus Insulated Flask 18oz by Nathan Sports — One of my favorite handheld water bottles. Easily tightens to your hand and you eventually forget that it is there. Small zipper pocket for keys, snacks, etc.
    • Caffyne Energy Pouches by Long Run Co. — Lovely little energy boost without the stomach upset II have gotten from other caffeine sources. Nice little boost when you need it most
    • Precision Fuel and Hydration PF 90 Gel by The Feed — The only gels that don't taste horrible and don't upset my stomach. SUCH and easy way to get carbs in, especially late in a race when you don't want to eat anything. Very mild sweet taste, tastes like chewed up marshmallow
