The Trail Race Line Up (Sub-Ultra) - Lara Hamilton

Everything I'd take for a sub-ultra trail race, head to toe

Lara Hamilton's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • NNormal Kjerag 02 by NNormal — This is my go-to trail shoe. I wear a USW11/EU44, even if I'm normall an EU43.5. I'm not a fan of high-cushion or high-stack - I like to have better contact with the ground and reduce my chances of an ankle-roll in technical terrain, so this is the go-to for me!
    • ADIDASTerrex Running Belt by boutique en ligne — Probably the only belt I've used that actually doesn't bounce, and is entirely adjustable. This is important in hot races where inevitably, you'll lose water weight, and need to tighten the belt!
    • LSKD Accelerate 3" High-Rise Running Short - Black by LSKD US — These shorts are a no-fail. They don't rise up, have built-in undies, have adjustable hip laces, and breathe super well. They also just look good :)
    • FRACTEL RACE SINGLET by Fractel — For a race singlet, the fabric has to be light, which often means breathable, and look crisp with the rest of my fit
    • FRACTEL Performance Crew Socks by Fractel — The socks matching the race singlet is a no-brainer, and to make it even better the socks have compression zones for that extra support. You also don't get blisters in these, and there's a cute 'Why We Run' message that you'll see when you pop them on for your next race ;)
    • MAURTEN GEL 100 CAF 100 by Maurten — I've never had stomach issues with Maurten, and I swear by taking 1x 100 CAF gel 15-20 minutes before the start. Gives me that extra sharpness I'm definitely going to need for these shorter distances.
    • RABBIT Strappy Pocket Bra by rabbit — If a race requires you to carry a phone and you're not savvy enough to find and purchase one of those tiny Temu looking ones - just get this bra and pop it in the back. Supportive, phone is secure, and get on with it
    • SKRATCH LABS SUPER HIGH CARB Drink Mix 840g by The Feed — I swear by this. All I need in a sub-ultra is Skratch. The gels are just extra. I've never bonked on this stuff. HOT TIP: mix the night before, shake like you're making a cocktail, and then throw it in the fridge overnight.
    • HYDRATION TABS PH 500 -1000 by Precision Hydration — I throw this in my bottle to sip pre-race. I also carry a flask of plain water. To keep levels up and ready for a hard effort.
    • 300ML Flow Bottle by Precision Hydration — I use smaller bottles to disperse the weight in my belt more evenly. They're also much easier to carry. I'll split my dosage up of skratch between 2 bottles, and often it's enough to carry me through 2h of racing

  1. Apex 4 by COROS — + the HR strap, a lightweight watch that has all the stats you need and super accurate data. I love digging in post race.
  2. FRACTEL Running Cap by Fractel — What is not to love about this design. It reminds me of the worlds best sunsets...in my opinion found in the Blue Mountains of Australia, any high alpine environment and La Cerdanya, in the Pyrennes! Performance designed - not just an ordinary cap, BTW!
  3. Nitrates+ by 4Endurance Pro — These help reduce the time to fatigue and blood flow/supply around the body in hard efforts - in layman's terms :) Use them around races!
