Appalachian Trail FKT - Jeff Garmire

The record setting gear to do the Appalachian Trail Self Supported FKT

Jeff Garmire's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Altruist Hydration Pack by UltrAspire — I used this for 300 miles in training for the Appalachian Trail and found it worked really well for the unique demands of a self-supported FKT attempt on the AT. I do wish it was a bit more weatherproof
    • LT5 Three Piece Carbon Trekking Poles (pair) by Gossamer Gear — I have used these for 20k miles and they work good. Quality and lightweight and I seem to break them less than other brands of carbon poles
    • Solo Tarp by Gossamer Gear — Lightweight and breezy. But it proved to work in the wind and rain storms during training camp.
    • Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Sleeping Pad Blue Regular by Therm-a-Rest — It's basically a glorified yoga mat, not comfortable, but the pad is long enough to give my hips and shoulders a bit of cushion.
    • T1 by Mount to Coast — Lightweight, durable, and the lacing system means they will not come untied. I put over 800 miles on a pair of them, so they hold up. No single pair will get that type of abuse this time.
    • Revelation APEX Sleeping Quilt by Enlightened Equipment — Synthetic because I don’t trust myself to keep down dry. Plus, it’s warm enough and light.
    • 5.0 XOTOES (Toe Sock) Anklet *Made in the USA* by sale — Anti-blister but I will be changing these bad boys often. They hold up better than other toe sock brands on the market
    • M's 7" AFO Middle Short Ultra by Janji — They worked well on the AT, so why not shorts with pockets for Cocodona 250
    • M's Trekker Snappy Shirt by Janji — Button-up meets breathable. I cut off the sleeves to make myself look edgy and show off my tattoos.
    • AFO Hyperlight Visor by Janji — Keeps sun and style high. And it lets people know I am in my 30s
    • Anti-Chafe & Skin Repair Sticks, Original by Squirrels Nut Butter — Humidity is real and so is chaffing
    • Squeeze Water Filtration System with Cnoc Premium 1-Liter Bottle by REI — Classic. Effective. Way easier than trying to suck water through the mini.
    • Garmin inReach Mini 2 Black by Garmin — It used a USB C Charging cord which simplified all of my charging, and the battery life could last a few days even with live tracking

  1. Coros Vertix 2S by COROS — Long battery life in low power mode and peace of mind on the backup tracking method for verification.
  2. FROGG TOGGS Chilly Pad, Instant Cooling Towel, Long Lasting, Reusable, Sports and Outdoors Neck Towel 33x13 by Amazon — Keeps me chill(er)
  3. Lumen 850 Duo Waist Light by UltrAspire — So bright it’s going to feel like daytime all night long. Also, the fog gets pretty thick and the waistlight is closer to the ground.
  4. Alpha Direct Hoody by Houda Trail — A midlayer with more warmth than weight!
