Desert Rats 100k Race Gear - Corinne Shalvoy

Everything I wore and used during the 2026 Desert Rats 100k to take 3rd place

Corinne Shalvoy's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Valhalla Vest by Terignota — Zero bounce, carries everything including mandatory gear, fantastic pricepoint, super thoughtful design. Plus, the founder Alex is awesome!
    • BONATTI WATERPROOF by Salomon — The only rain jacket you'll need for ultra running (lightweight, passes mandatory gear requirements, lasts forever, fits great). I also wore this same jacket during a rain storms at CCC in 2022 and the Ouray 50 in 2025
    • Spectrum Trail Midweight Crew by Injinji — I've worn Injinji toesocks for 8 years now. Keeping your toes and feet happy in an ultra is absolutely critical. Trust.
    • Tecton X 3 by HOKA — Historically not able to wear many models of Hoka's bc I have narrow, low volume feet and I didn't like the high stack height, this one works great for me. Light enough for racing but protective enough with excellent grip. Perfect for a runnable course with some technical sections and slick rock + sand underfoot. I personally love the built in collar too.
    • Drink Mix 24 Serving Bulk Bag by My Store — I had a 500ml soft flask of this with 1/2 serving in it (30g carbs, 250mg sodium) throughout the entire race. Light but super enjoyable flavor - easy to drink and the formulation sits super well in the gut. Open Fuel is also all about less waste which we love!
    • Faster by Julbo — These are the closest to the Aerolite model I was wearing. Chose these for the race as it was a combination of overcast, rainy, and sunny on the day. These lenses are photochromatic meaning they change from clear to dark tint depending on the weather. Glasses are not only for sun during ultras but also key to protect your eyes from dust, rain and prevent overall drying out.
    • SiS BETA Fuel Gel - Neutral by SiS — One of my go-to gels for racing. 40g carbs per gel, neutral flavor, thin but not watery consistency that's really easy to get down. No caffeine. I use these in combination with other gels during racing and training. ***WARNING, the Nootropics beta gel has a yellow stripe on the top of the gel and has 200mg of caffeine! (I take 1/2 of one of these late in races)
    • Anti-Chafe & Skin Repair Stick w/ Frankincense & Lavender by Squirrels Nut Butter — On my toes/feet, backs of my arms, inner thighs, and collarbone for every race! This scent is divine too. Apply liberally and reapply if wet conditions.
    • OpenRun by Shokz — I love listening to fun playlists during races and these headphones allow me to also hear what's going on around me. I have a tiny head so I get the 'mini's'. Great sound, weigh nothing and long battery life!
