- Who it's for
- Ultrarunners tackling technical, rooty East Coast trails or fast mountain races who want a bouncy, grippy shoe that holds up from 50K to 100 miles. Runners with picky feet (plantar fasciitis, bunions) or those who've struggled with narrow Euro lasts may find this a rare fit.
- What people are saying
- Hosts consistently praise the responsive foam, grip on technical terrain, and secure midfoot hold as standout strengths. One caveat: it's noted as stiff and less suited to very low-speed, multi-day backyard formats, and the foam can feel too soft for some on highly technical ground.
- Worth noting
- Size up — multiple hosts flag this strongly, with one going a full size above their usual La Sportiva size. One reported case of ankle collar pressure on the Achilles during a 100-miler when lower-leg swelling occurred, worth noting for long efforts.

James Sieber, Running & Strength Coach || Peak Pursuits Podcast Host
La Sportiva has not traditionally worked for my feet, being too "euro" in their last. The Prodigio Pro was a very welcome change to this. A great midfoot hold, combined with a slightly wider, deeper toe box, means this shoe can fit a variety of people very well. The upper weave is very robust and secure, showing no issues on cambered trails, which can cause the foot to slip and move around. The foam is responsive and fun, but can feel a bit too soft for some on more technical terrain. One of my runners found that, during a 100-mile event, their lower leg swelled slightly (common) and the ankle collar put a lot of pressure on their Achilles, leading to problems. This has been the only complaint from a fit/upper perspective of the 15+ people I have recommended this shoe to.

The bottom line of the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro, is these are fantastic shoes for long days on the trails. Whether that's a long training run in the mountains of Colorado, or crushing some beastcoast vert at Frozen Head State Park, the super comfortable upper, the responsive and energetic midsole, and impressively grippy outsole really do make the Prodigio Pro the perfect 100 mile shoe in my opinion.

Laura swears by these for many long runs, and has used many a La Sportiva trail shoe for trips up to the huts. Any time of the season, from early runs with snow to fall runs with dust and less water crossings - a trail runner like these can be the perfect footwear for a long run like Teton Crest -- fast drying and low bulk.

Great technical shoe. Fast and great for class 3 scrambling to get to that summit. You really feel attached to this shoe and it’s probably one of my favorite all round trail shoes for any conditions.

I have used these in a backyard format and have found that they are a stiff shoe and caused me problems when trying to maintain low speed and going for days, they are the perfect shoe for a 100 mile race that you are doing as fast as or just doing your training on the trails, I love the shoe but has to be used in the right time and place

Finally, a trail shoe I truly love! Not all modern trail shoes feel fast on rooty techy East Coast trails and these have come out on top for me lately.

Love the flex, love the energy, plus the super secure fit. Make sure to check out my videos on the channel for sizing advice - need to size up with this one, maybe more than you think.

This shoe is bouncy, fast, lightweight, and has surprisingly great grip. It’s perfect for ripping a fast East Coast 50K or Cali carpet, but I’ve also worn it up to 100K and it has performed incredibly well. I absolutely love the foam. It has that super-shoe feel and gives you a really responsive, energetic ride without sacrificing the grip you need for roots and rocks on East Coast terrain. It’s also been great for gravel workouts when I want something fast and lightweight.

This is my go to shoe for most ultras now. I have very picky feet (plantar fasciitis and bunions and post tib tendonitis) and these are the only shoes that keep my feet happy all day. I can trust them on technical terrain yet they are bouncier than other "all-day" shoes.

MY OFFICIAL GLASS SLIPPER - BEST SHOE EVER. I will note - best if you try this one on, La Sportiva sizing is always funny but this one i went a full size up (Im a 7.5 in most brands, usually buy a 39 in sportiva, but this one was just right in a 40)

I love love love this shoe, and the fact that women have won 100k trail races, 8 mile mountain races and 20 mile skyraces in it tells you that it can handle everything, at speed.

My absolute go-to for technical mountain racing. I’ve burned through two pairs over two seasons—racking up 500+ miles of brutal mountain terrain in each, from Broken Arrow and The Rut to the Skyrunner World Series. They strike the perfect balance of moderate cushioning and locked-in stability, giving me total confidence to charge fast on rugged, technical trails."
