- Hotwire Quickpack 12 cm by Black Diamond — I've used these with climbing partners and they're solid. Really, pick up two packs of 5 or 6 draws that are on sale and you'll be set.
- Contact Sling 8.0 by Mammut — The Mammut Contact slings are the creme de la creme of slings. The Contact has a slim bartack that is sewn together so that there are no exposed edges. Pick up a 180cm or 240cm to use as anchor material.
- Beal Booster III 9.7 mm by Beal — This is my go-to personal climbing rope. Depending on your area, a 60m or 70m (or even an 80m these days!) may make the most sense. Check with more experienced climbers in your area to see what length makes the most sense. Skip the dry treatment for your first rope. I prefer a bipattern, but if you're just going to be single pitch cragging, that may be overkill.
- C.A.M.P. Orbit Wire Express KS Quickdraws - Package of 6 Green 12 Cm by C.A.M.P. — I've been using these Camp quickdraws for years. Good durability, easy to use, and solid price. Can't go wrong.
- HotForge Screwgate Carabiner 3-Pack by Black Diamond — My pack of Hot Forge locking carabiners are still going strong. 4 is great for setting up top ropes.
- Edelrid Bulletproof Screw Carabiner by Edelrid — If you're planning on doing a lot of top roping, it's worth picking up two of these Edelrid Bulletproof carabiners to prevent wear on your rope-side carabiners.
- Half Dome Helmet by Black Diamond — For a first helmet, you can't go wrong with the Black Diamond Half Dome. I still have mine and it's still in great shape.
- Capitan E Helmet by Black Diamond — If you're looking for a step-up in your helmet, check the Capitan. It still has a full-coverage hard plastic shell for durability, but a lower weight.
