6 experts recommend the Petzl Sum'Tec Mountaineering Ice Axe.
Clara Maynard, AMGA Apprentice Rock/Alpine Guide & Wilderness Medicine Instructor
Good technical axe with hammer for hammering pickets
Recommended in Crevasse Rescue
This is the most versatile mountaineering axe. You can self-arrest, swing it, and plunge with it. And it is "T" rated. This is probably over kill for Mt. Washington, but if you are going to buy one mountaineering axe, this is it!

Cassidy Higgins, Avalanche Forecaster, AMGA apprentice Rock and Alpine guide
I use this axe for almost all of the mountaineering I do. It is aggressive enough to tackle steeper terrain, while also providing enough of the features of a general mountaineering ice axe. I use this on every trip I do up rainier.

I've used this axe for all my snow climbing for the last 5 years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, this axe will do what you need it to until you're looking at proper ice climbing.
