- Who it's for
- Trail runners looking for a race-day shoe suited to technical or mixed terrain, especially efforts over two hours like ultras and 50ks. Hosts with narrow, low-volume feet note it fits better than many HOKA models.
- What people are saying
- Hosts consistently praise the grip, carbon-plate responsiveness, cushioning, and integrated gaiter as standout race-day features. One low-volume-foot host notes some foot movement inside the shoe due to the sock liner design, though they still rate it highly overall.
- Worth noting
- Fits true to size; one narrow/low-volume-foot host flags slight internal foot movement. Hosts position it between a more cushioned, heavier option and a lighter, less sturdy one — best for fast-but-technical races rather than the most extreme technical terrain.
Jeff Fairman's review
Used these for many of my longer efforts including a long FKT attempt and a 50k race. A really well cushioned and forgiving shoe, I have found it works for everything except for the most technical terrain. My foot moves around a little bit in the shoe due to the sock liner design, but I have a low volume foot, so I deal with that in a lot of shoes. Overall a really good shoe that has some versatility. If you could only have one shoe, this would be a good do-it-all option.

Historically not able to wear many models of Hoka's bc I have narrow, low volume feet and I didn't like the high stack height, this one works great for me. Light enough for racing but protective enough with excellent grip. Perfect for a runnable course with some technical sections and slick rock + sand underfoot. I personally love the built in collar too.

New on the feet for the 2026 summer trail extravaganza. This shoe gave me the extra push through the trails that I needed. The grip on the technical allowed me to race as I do on the road. The built in gator liner allowed me to speed through any terrain without the concern of a rock sneaking in to the trail. The superior cushion and plate allowed me to go all gas no brakes and push the pace.

Used these for Black Canyon so they have a special place in my heart. Not as heavy feeling as the prodigio and more sturdy than the ASU. This is what I use for fast but slightly technical races!
